UPM Timber offers its customers tools for sustainability

The materials shared on our co-marketing platform are meant for our customers to use. Taking steps forward in sustainability benefits the entire sawn timber value chain.

UPM Timber’s co-marketing platform provides data and materials for sustainability and sustainability marketing. All materials found on the platform (images, certificates, EPD, infographics, etc.) are free to use. All of our videos are also free to use and can be linked, shared and embedded on our customers' websites as well. We ask that you kindly mark UPM as the source when using an image or video.

"There are plenty of materials on the co-marketing website that can be very useful for our customers. For example, our carbon footprint calculator is an easy tool that allows you to see the climate impact of our sawn timber," says Sales Director Mikko Hyvärinen.

The new tool simply and easily shows not only the emissions of our products, but also the amount of carbon stored in the sawn timber. Our customers can utilise our carbon footprint calculator, for example, by linking it to their website.

”UPM Timber’s EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) tells the carbon footprint of our sawn timber and enables our customers to tell their story through the raw material. That’s why the EPD can be very useful as well”, Mikko says.

The EPD is a standardised, third-party verified, and internationally comparable way to report the environmental impacts of UPM's sawn timber from raw material production to final disposal of the product.

Sustainability benefits the entire value chain

At UPM Timber, we want to take steps forward in sustainability and to have our customers also see the benefit.

"We believe that constantly striving forward in sustainability also benefits business. It is known that consumers are increasingly interested in responsibility. Together, we can improve the entire sawn timber value chain. Transparency also helps to develop co-operation," says Mikko.

According to EY’s most recent Future Consumer Index, majority of consumers want more information to help make better choices in terms of sustainability. Companies should approach sustainability as something that can help create value.

“As consumers are expecting more and more sustainability actions and information, us as companies should respond to the demand. Together we can make a positive impact on our environment and make the entire supply chain transparent. UPM Timber strives to be a frontrunner and set the standard in sustainability in the timber industry”, Mikko Hyvärinen sums up.
