Our new co-marketing platform provides tools on sustainability

UPM Timber aims to be the industry leader in sustainability. The newly released co-marketing platform makes the company’s sustainability journey even more transparent, sharing impact data and assets with everyone.

The co-marketing platform web portal compiles facts related to UPM Timber’s wood raw material based on the newly released life-cycle assessment analysis.  The always up to date platform includes also certificates and other data as well as tools and ready-to-use marketing materials, such as photos and videos. The co-marketing platform will also feature UPM Timber’s Carbon Footprint Calculator, to be released in early 2023. The calculator will help customers and consumers estimate wood raw materials’ environmental impact and how much carbon wood stores.

UPM Timber’s sustainability story is explained also in a new video published on the co-marketing platform. Check out the video to learn how two very similar looking pieces of timber can have a totally different carbon footprints!

– There’s more than meets the eye behind every piece of timber, says Antti Koulumies, Head of UPM Timber. – What makes us different is our promise to always keep Setting the Standard. The co-marketing platform claims this promise: it demonstrates our impact and shows where we go above and beyond.

Transparent data for our partners

In recent years, UPM Timber has taken great strides to improve the sustainability of its operations. Sawmills’ production process runs entirely on renewables, and UPM Timber has the industry’s lowest emissions from forest to package. In 2020, the company reached its CO2 reduction targets ten years ahead of schedule.

An ambitious sustainability agenda comes with a considerable burden of proof: targets must be measurable, actions impactful and choices supported by the best available data. Often, steps are verified by independent, third-party operators. A recent ISO-standardised EPD report, for example, examined the environmental impact of UPM’s sawn timber in more than thirteen different impact categories. This too, can be found on the new co-marketing platform.

Measurements, reports and certificates that assess the impact of UPM Timber’s operations accumulate a significant volume of data useful not only for the company, but for its stakeholders, too. With the release of a new co-marketing platform, UPM Timber shares this data and supplementary assets with its customers.

– UPM Timber’s products play a key role in our partners’ operations. Consequently, our timber’s environmental impact has a direct effect on whether our customers meet their climate and environmental targets. By granting them direct access to our data, we hope to help all parties better communicate the impact of their material choice, explains Koulumies.
